Abstract:

Satellite orbit control is essential for numerous space missions, requiring both fuel efficiency and accuracy under orbital perturbations. This research develops a closed-loop control law for satellite low-thrust orbital transfers using the Milankovitch vectorial elements, with a particular emphasis on constant-magnitude thrust typical to electric propulsion. In this talk, we will outline the development of closed-loop orbital transfer algorithms integrating a Lyapunov-based controller with a linear quadratic regulator and sliding-mode control. This combination improves transfer accuracy while guaranteeing stability and reducing chattering, particularly under constant-magnitude thrust constraints. We will present simulations indicating that the newly-developed closed-loop orbital transfer method achieves superior performance compared to existing methods.
