Picture of Congratulations to Moshe Golani for winning the 2025 'Gemunder' prize for excellence in space research!

Moshe Golani, a Ph.D. student of Prof. Yoram Rozen won the 2025 'Gemunder' prize for space related technologies research for his work: Radiometric Interferometry for Deep Space Navigation Using Geostationary Satellites. Moshe is developing a deep space navigation system with a unique idea of his own. His proposed method has multiple advantages over existing methods and can lead to the realization of ASRI's CoolEarth project.

Picture of Revital Frenkel and Yahli Drucker reached the finals in the GNC Graduate Student Paper Competition!
Revital Frenkel and Yahli Druker, Master students under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Vitaly Shaferman have reached the finals in the upcoming Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Graduate Student Paper Competition at the AIAA SciTech Forum, to be held in Orlando, Florida, in Jan. 2026. The title of Revital’s paper is “Optimal 3D Soft Landing Guidance with Approach Angle Path Constraints”, and the title of Yahli’s paper is “Low-Thrust Orbital Linear-Quadratic Differential Games with Terminal Speed Constraints”. Prof. Gurfil’s book Celestial mechanics and Astrodynamics: Theory and Practice, authored together with Prof. Kenneth Seidelman, was recently translated to Chinese by Hongxin Shen from China’s Xi'an Satellite Control Centre, to be published by Springer publications soon.

Alex is responsible for most of ASRI’s projects, as well as the integration of the work carried out. He is an excellent and prolific researcher, dedicated and committed to ASRI and all its workers, always available and willing to help and to advise. He is gentle and very pleasant to work with, and everyone at ASRI and outside it knows his door is open to anyone who needs him.

The new Space Systems Laboratory was inaugurated last week, in time for the new semester opening. The instructional lab will provide students with the opportunity to acquire hands-on experience in space systems design and small satellite engineering.

Prof. Mark Psiaki, a world-renowned expert on GNSS, estimation and attitude determination from Virginia Tech, will spend a four-month sabbatical at ASRI starting mid-March of 2024, to work with ASRI researchers on satellite-based positioning systems.
