Picture of Israel Space Week at the Technion

As part of Israel’s Space Week led by ISA and the Rakia Mission, Space Campus IL and ASRI hosted NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik, and Rebecca Bresnik, Associate General Counsel for International and Space Law Practice Group Headquarters, for a guided tour of some of the most interesting space-related projects that the Technion has to offer!

Following the tour, the Bresniks, husband and wife, gave a joint lecture to the students of the Aerospace Faculty, offering insights into human spaceflight, international space cooperation, and the intersection between science, law, and society. They also shared some of their personal experiences as a “space-related” family and gave a very rare and interesting peek into their lives. It was a wonderful experience and we are thankful to everyone who helped make this day happen!

Congratulations to Moshe Golani for winning the 2025 'Gemunder' prize for excellence in space research!

Moshe Golani, a Ph.D. student of Prof. Yoram Rozen won the 2025 'Gemunder' prize for space related technologies research for his work: Radiometric Interferometry for Deep Space Navigation Using Geostationary Satellites. Moshe is developing a deep space navigation system with a unique idea of his own. His proposed method has multiple advantages over existing methods and can lead to the realization of ASRI's CoolEarth project.

Revital Frenkel and Yahli Drucker reached the finals in the GNC Graduate Student Paper Competition!

Revital Frenkel and Yahli Druker, Master students under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Vitaly Shaferman have reached the finals in the upcoming Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Graduate Student Paper Competition at the AIAA SciTech Forum, to be held in Orlando, Florida, in Jan. 2026.

Prof. Gurfil’s book "Celestial mechanics and Astrodynamics: Theory and Practice" now in Chinese

Prof. Gurfil’s book Celestial mechanics and Astrodynamics: Theory and Practice, authored together with Prof. Kenneth Seidelman, was recently translated to Chinese by Hongxin Shen from China’s Xi'an Satellite Control Centre, to be published by Springer publications soon.

Dr. Alexander Frid chosen as ‘Outstanding Technion Employee’

Congratulations to Dr. Alexander Frid for being chosen as an ‘Outstanding Technion Employee’!

Alex is responsible for most of ASRI’s projects, as well as the integration of the work carried out. He is an excellent and prolific researcher, dedicated and committed to ASRI and all its workers, always available and willing to help and to advise. He is gentle and very pleasant to work with, and everyone at ASRI and outside it knows his door is open to anyone who needs him.

A new director for ASRI

Starting January 1, 2025, Prof. Yoav Schechner from the department of Electrical Engineering is replacing Prof. Yoram Rozen as ASRI's director.

A New Laboratory in ASRI!

The new Space Systems Laboratory was inaugurated last week, in time for the new semester opening. The instructional lab will provide students with the opportunity to acquire hands-on experience in space systems design and small satellite engineering.

Prof. Mark Psiaki, Virginia Tech, visiting ASRI for Sabbatical

Prof. Mark Psiaki, a world-renowned expert on GNSS, estimation and attitude determination from Virginia Tech, will spend a four-month sabbatical at ASRI starting mid-March of 2024, to work with ASRI researchers on satellite-based positioning systems.
